kids and their 1st day of school...

i know you must be wondering 'what kids and what 1st day of school is janice talking about?' yes, i dont have any kids but i've got plenty of cousins and friends who have kids and scrapping their kids photos is enough to make me not wanna have my own! at this point, this seems to be the better deal, because i still get to have fun; i dont need to yell, chase or discilipine them!

i also get loads of time to do things i like and scrap! so this post is all about 2 kids i know and their first day of school. the first child is wyn-ning, she is my eldest niece; she is considerate and well behaved. her layout is based on sketch 226 from http://www.pencillines.com/

and here is my take...

supplies used: patterned paper - autumn leaves; cardstock - autumn leaves, dcwv; alphas - recollection, jenni bowlin and sizzix; buttons - daiso and pop-up stickers - k&co.

the second kid is jaz's 2nd son, roy; he's cheeky and energetic. his layout is based on sketch 106 from http://www.thescrappiest.blogspot.com/ and here is my attempt...

supplies used: patterned papers - autumn leaves; cardstock - dcwv; alphas - american crafts, recollection, sizzix, jenni bowlin

i love 'school' themed papers and they seem to be able to match with any photos, i also love how 'school' themed layouts allow me to use buttons, banners and a whole load of color and it can still work out.

i hope that i can keep this up since this are my 3rd and 4th layout in 6 days! i really wanna scrap more and use more of my supplies so i can get the new arrivals without feeling guilty after...
wish me luck!

OooOh so sweet!

have you ever tried rock melon that is so juicy and sweet that when you first sink your teeth into the slice, your eyes widen with amazment, you can feel the cold, sweet juice flowing down your throat and it feels like everything around you doesnt matter and all you do is to continue chewing the flesh and sink your teeth into more of that slice of rock melon, while your other half keeps asking you questions about the rock melon which you refuse to answer until you have finish off that slice of rock melon?

well, francis and i have! he must have thought i was crazy for that maybe 60 seconds while i gulpped down that slice of rock melon but he definitely understood what i felt because he had the exact same reaction, ignoring me while i asked 'isnt it sweet?' 'it's so cold and juicy right?' 'do you like it?' etcetera...

it has been almost 7 months since we had that rock melon in otaru, hokkaido, japan and i can still recall that feel when i see the photos we managed to grab with that couple of minutes and today's post is all about a layout on that rock melon.

this is the sketch which the layout is based on...

it is from http://www.thescrappiest.blogspot.com and here is my attempt at it...

supplies used: patterned paper - my mind's eye; cardstock - dcwv; alphas - american craft and doodlebug designs; trims - red twine; chipboard - maya road and punches - martha steward 'crown'

this is a simple layout that makes me super happy when i see it! cant wait to start on the next project!

until then, *hugs*

the smurfs...

hope you had a wonderfuly weekend, well...mine was really fulfilling! i came back from work on friday and got straight down to planning a new layout and by the time i went to bed on friday night, i had been awake for over 43hours, with about a 5hours nap inbetween.

but i think it was all worth it. i completed a layout that is a tad bit overdue and all just in time for the design team search on the sketch blogs, http://www.pencillines.com/ and http://www.thescrappiest.blogspot.com/

anyway, back to my story on the smurfs. my friend, smurf, found his perfect smurfette and they decided to tie the knot and celebrated their love for each other on 23rd october 2010. so i decided to make a little something for them to always remember that beautiful day.

this layout is based on the design team search sketch for 2011 over at the pencil lines sketch blog, here is the link to the sketch... http//www.pencillines.com/2011/02/design-team-search-2011.html and here is my attempt at it...

supplies used: patterned paper - making memories; cardstock - dcwv; trims - making memories; flowers & pearls - prima marketing; brads - making memories and doodlebug designs; die-cuts - k&co; blings - basic grey; alphas - american craft; doily - royal lace and gold trim - from a bookshop in NZ

trying to layer this layout was initially a pain but once i got started, i couldnt stop! it is so puffy and popped up that it is a tight squeeze in its shadow box but i love it! well, me loving it, isnt good enough because its gonna be a gift for smurf & smurfette, so hopefully they'll like it too!

i hate how i need to go to work soon but good thing is that i get to come home tonight...yippieee! hopefully i wont be too tired because i have a 2nd layout which is about 85% done! cant wait to share it!

until the next post...

SSJ scrap session 01/11 - part 2

happy lunar new year! it has been a crazy 2 weeks, been away for work shortly after my last post and by the time i got back it was already lunar new year. i had fun catching up with family and friends during the festive season but also spend some quiet moments nursing the lost of someone close.

i am sad to lose that someone but yet a small part of me also know that this may be better for him, as he no longer needs to suffer. so yes, i have had a whirl wind of emotions for 2 weeks and i am sorry, my love, for the lost of your father.

and yes due to the crazy events for the past 2 weeks, i havent been scrapping. but i have finally taken photos of the 3rd layout that i did at SSJ (sharon, serbina & janice's) scrap session 01/11. if y0u have read the previous post, we were each suppose to bring a sketch, which we would all attempt and the sketch i found was sketch #216 from www.pencillines.com
here is my take on the sketch...

the layout is entitled: men will be boys. these photos were taken at smurf's house at about 6ish in the morning of his wedding, the guys (yogi, francis and ah seng) were suppose to go help the groom get ready to pick up his bride but they ended up goof-ing around with smurf's collection of nerf guns!

materials used: patterned papers - graphic45; lace cardstock - ki memories; tissue tape: tim holtz idea-ology; alphas: graphic45, jenni bowlin & reflections; cardstock - dcwv; brads - daiso and others - bottle caps

i found that it really hard to embellish 'boys' and 'men' layouts but i love how these bottle caps fit right in, since the men i knowall love to drink beer, so yes it does help to make the page a little more manly that way.

thank you for looking! i'll be off to another work trip but i am hoping to come back and get started on scrapping again!

/hugs

p/s: i am sorry if you need to turn your head when you are looking at the main photo of the layout, somehow this photo seem to change it's orientation on its own when i upload it and i cant seem to do anything about it
